Shane Victorino homered among his four hits and had a career high-tying five RBIs as the Boston Red Sox beat the host Detroit Tigers, 10-6, to even the four-game series at one game apiece.
Jacoby Ellsbury had a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Stephen Drew and Jose Iglesias each had three hits and combined to score five runs as the Red Sox halted a five-game losing streak at Comerica Park. Jon Lester (7-4) labored through 5 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits, to win for the first time since May 15.
Miguel Cabrera went 4-for-4 with a three-run homer and Andy Dirks added a solo blast for Detroit, which had its lead atop the AL Central cut to three games over Cleveland.
Tigers starter Doug Fister (6-5) was pounded for six runs on 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings.
The Red Sox knocked Fister from the game with six consecutive one-out hits in a four-run fourth, including a two-run double by Ellsbury and two-RBI single from Victorino for a 6-1 lead.
The Tigers answered in the fifth, getting a solo homer from Dirks and a three-run shot from Cabrera — his 10th hit in 16 career at-bats against Lester — to cut the deficit to 6-5.
Boston pulled away on Victorino's RBI single in the sixth before tacking on two runs in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Victorino and bases-loaded wild pitch by Al Alburquerque, who was recalled from Triple-A Toledo earlier Friday.GAME NOTEBOOK: Cabrera had his fifth four-hit game of the season while extending his hitting streak to seven games and boosting his major league-leading RBI total to 74 in 72 games.
