Froyoworld brings treats, jobs to Salem
SALEM — Earlier this month, Canterbury residents Richard and Lynn Caesar opened Froyoworld, a self-service frozen yogurt bar located at 240 N. Broadway.
The Caesars said they decided to come to Salem after successfully opening their first Froyoworld franchise in Durham this past fall.
“Salem’s a very vibrant area, but it previously lacked this type of business,” said Richard Caesar. “So we’re hoping to fill a void here.”
Flavors range from the traditional vanilla bean and Dutch chocolate to the more unusual cake batter and pina colada, along with two flavors of dairy-free sorbets to appeal to those on lactose-free or vegan diets, blood orange and frozen lemonade.
For the carbohydrate-conscious, there’s also a low-carb taro root flavor.
Customers serve themselves, with a variety of 40 or so different toppings available, ranging from fresh fruits and nuts to more decadent choices like chocolate candies, gummy bears and chunks of cookie dough and cheesecake, to exotic choices like Asian mochi, which Caesar describes as “a crunchy cross between rice cakes and marshmallows.”
Each dessert is weighed and priced by the pound.
“People who try it tend to love it,” Caesar said. “I think it’s important to give people some healthier options.”
Located just steps from Victorian Park miniature golf and about a mile and a half from Canobie Lake Park, Caesar said his shop is conveniently located for families wanting to stop in for dessert after a summer outing.
“Salem is still expanding and so are we,” he said.
A physician by trade, Caesar said he’d always contemplated opening his own business, but wanted to make sure he was selling a health-oriented product.
“As someone working in the medical field, this just made the most sense,” he said.
Caesar said he’s in the process of hiring around 20 people to work at the Salem store, noting that while the Durham store has mainly been hiring college students who work part-time, more full-time positions are anticipated in Salem.
However, he said he’s open to hiring a few local high school students to fill some part-time positions, too.
Froyoworld is open daily from noon to 10 p.m. For more information, visit www.froyoword.com.
