Goffstown family wants to donate land near town hall
The board held public meetings June 3 and 17, with little comment from residents, but some town officials offered their input on potential use of the parcels. The five parcels are adjacent to and abut town hall. One of the parcels holds historical significance as a section of a building on the lot was part of the original town hall.
“It’s known as the Round House,” said property owner Raymond Blondeau. “It was found floating down the river and saved.”
The parcels, owned by Blondeau and his wife, Vivian, with assessed values from Vision Government Solutions, include:
• Lot 76A, at 28 Depot St., a half-acre of land with an assessed value of $63,000.
• Lot 80, 22 Main St., is assessed at $142,300. The .14-acre of land includes a 3,200-square-foot warehouse building.
• Lot 88, at 9 Church St., includes .67 acre and a 1,470-square-foot office building, circa 1892. The property is assessed at $160,200.
• Lot 90, at 17 Church St., is a half-acre of land assessed at $122,900.
If the board of selectmen accepts the donation, the parcels have to be appraised. The Blondeaus hope all goes well.
Selectmen Chairman Collis Adams said there has been no discussion about proposed uses for the parcels.
“The Board of Selectmen will likely establish a commission to examine the possibilities and then report back to the board with recommendations,” he said. “Certainly, the lack of parking downtown is an issue and so it would seem reasonable that any development scheme would take that in to account.”
At the June 17 hearing, Tony Marts, who spoke on behalf of the Goffstown Industrial Corporation, said he supports accepting the donation contingent that the town and the GIP work together to complete a study for future uses.
He suggested the parcels could be used to expand the post office, the district court and for future economic development.
John Hikel spoke as a Goffstown resident and a member of the Planning Board.
Though he supports accepting the parcels, he said the town needs to have a plan in place for the parcels’ usage as well as a timeline for development.
