PORTSMOUTH — An Urban Tree Service worker was killed Thursday in an accident involving a stump grinder, according to authorities.
Seacoastonline.com reported state Medical Examiner Will Bartels said the man died following traumatic injuries to his body at a 260 Gosport Road residence.
"We lost an important member of our team today," said Ed Hopkins, president of Urban Tree Service/A Tree Health Company Inc. of Rochester. "This was a tragic accident and we are all trying to understand how to cope with it. I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and support to the family."
The man's name was withheld, pending family notification.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene as well as a crime scene van and Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials, the report said.
"This is probably the first stump grinder accident that I've seen," Bartels told seacoastonline.com.
