Summer concert series returns to MacGregor ParkJune 26. 2013 1:08PM
DERRY — The Parks and Recreation Department is bringing back its popular free summer concert series at MacGregor Park this summer with some returning favorites and some new faces.The series kicks off on Tuesday, July 9, with Jodie and Fried Cactus, a contemporary country band that offers a blend of cover songs and new material.
On Thursday, July 11, popular Beatles cover band BeatleJuice returns to MacGregor Park. Last year’s concert was one of the best attended of the year, and Craig Yonge of the Recreation Department said the audience can expect to hear the full breadth of the Beatles material, from early rockers like “All My Lovin’” to later classics such as “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “I Am the Walrus.”
July will also see children’s musician Rick Charette perform on Tuesday, July 16, and longtime local favorites the Reminisants on Thursday, July 18.
The Reminisants have been performing across New England for four decades and have shared the stage with a number of musical legends, including the Beach Boys, Felix Cavaliere and his Rascals, and the Crystals.
The White Mountain Bluegrass band has been performing for almost as long as the Reminisants and will bring their bluegrass harmonies to the park on Tuesday, July 23.
The music gets a little heavier and louder when the Royal Pains take the stage on Thursday, July 25, performing songs from hard rock giants like AC/DC, Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones, and Black Sabbath.
July closes with the Mirage band playing classic rock, pop, R&B, and country on Tuesday, July 30.
August concerts include Pony Express bringing country music back to Derry on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and the Lisa Guyer Band, formerly known as Mama Kicks, taking the stage on Thursday, Aug. 8.
