NH man killed ex-wife's husband, self, Vermont police say
PEACHAM, Vt. — A New Hampshire man shot and killed his ex-wife’s husband before turning the gun on himself, Vermont state police said.
Police said a man believed to be John Jackson, 59, of Amherst, N.H., drove to the home of Mark Peabody, 50, and his wife, Jeannie, 60, about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Mark Peabody went to Jackson’s car to talk to him and Jeannie Peabody heard three shots fired, police said.
Jeannie Peabody hid in her home’s basement for several minutes. When she heard footsteps above her, she left the home and went to a neighbor’s home, where she called 911, police said.
Police said Jackson and Jeannie Peabody had “ongoing disagreements” with Jackson about child support payments.
Police said they found the body of Mark Peabody outside Jackson’s white SUV, which bore New Jersey license plates. They said the body of another man, believed to be Jackson, was found inside the house, “however official identification is pending by autopsy,” a police press release said.
