Buchholz may be headed for disabled list

Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz could go on the disabled list after his scheduled start for Tuesday was scratched.

Buchholz, who leads the American League with a 9-0 record and 1.71 ERA, has been dealing with a neck injury. He was forces to exit his last start on June 8 with neck tightness.

He was not deemed healthy enough to throw a bullpen session scheduled for today."Clay threw today, he feels a little bit better than he did yesterday but not to the point where he's going to throw a bullpen tomorrow," manager John Farrell told MassLive.com Saturday. "So what we do have is benefit with the off day where we can keep guys turn with Felix (Doubront) going Tuesday, (Ryan) Dempster Wednesday and staying on turn from there. But right now we haven't announced the other starter for Tuesday."The Red Sox face the Tampa Bay Rays in a doubleheader Tuesday.

If Buchholz is put on the DL, the move could be backdated to June 8.

"Yeah, we are (considering the DL) and Clay's well aware of that and we had a chance to talk about where our threshold might be to make a decision," Farrell said. "Still, bottom line being, we're not going to put him out there until we go through the normal build-up and make sure he's in a safe place physically."

Also, the Red Sox sent first baseman Mike Napoli to Boston to have tests done to find out why he has been experiencing dizziness, grogginess and light-headedness since Thursday. A specialist all but ruled out a concussion.
