The project's master plan seeks to balance economic development with sustainable growth and housing. The project will create 5,000 short-term construction jobs and 16 permanent jobs, and will allow Riveredge Marina to expand its workforce to include residential property management. The property, a total of 65 acres, was acquired in 2007, just as an economic recession was setting in. "During the recession, we tried to figure out what we could learn from this watershed community, what would be the ideal type of housing," he said.
The homes, priced at an average 60 percent of the price for a Squam-area waterfront home, offers value as well. Home models vary in size and price in Phase I from $225 to $325 per square foot, depending upon size, quality, scope and complexity. The Discovery Home, a completed model with 2,400 square feet, starts at $547,200. The development will have a community trail system and a limited homeowners association with on-site property management.Squam River Landing's ribbon cutting is June 27, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Riveredge Marina, 283 River St., Ashland.
