Motorcyclist killed at Old Man viewing area


FRANCONIA — A motorcyclist who failed to negotiate a turn from the northbound side of Interstate 93 into the entrance of the viewing area at the Old Man of the Mountain was killed Thursday morning, according to state police.


The rider, who was not identified by police, was not wearing a helmet and was ejected from the motorcycle. Police did say he was from out of state. Passersby who came upon the scene attempted to render aid until emergency responders arrived. The man was taken to Littleton Regional Hospital where police say he died from his injuries.


The crash happened shortly before 11:30 a.m.


The area of I-93 where the accident occurred is called the Franconia Notch State Parkway.


Assisting at the scene were the Franconia fire and police departments, Littleton Regional Hospital paramedics, and the N.H. Bureau of Forests and Lands.
