MANCHESTER — Members of the Alvirne High School Class of 2013 reflected on the passing of time and building their individuality at the Hudson school's annual graduation exercises Thursday night.

Senior Class President Jenna Gianelli encouraged fellow graduates to embrace the sometimes challenging experiences time will bring.

"I don't know about you all, but right now time scares me," Gianelli said. "We get one step closer to branching off in 331 different directions."

Two-dozen members of the class who will enter military service led the graduates and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Retiring members of the faculty with more than 30 years experience in the schools were introduced. As recognition turned to Jim MacEachern, a retiring English teacher, the class rose for a prolonged ovation.

MacEachern was the partner of teacher Barbara Boyd, a popular teacher stricken by a fatal heart attack last week. The couple had planned to retire together at the end of the school year.

Twin sisters, Tara and Heather Hardy, ranked first and second in the class, respectively, delivered the salutatory and valedictory address.

The "Hardy Girls" as they are known to the class reflected on constant questions from the curious about being a twin.

"It can be frustrating trying to create an individual identity for yourself," said Tara."We challenge you, our fellow graduates, to reflect upon the past and accept all those attitudes as an opportunity to learn, to grow and better yourself," said Heather. "Ultimately your identity may change but what you experience in your high school years will always be a part of who you are."
