Gilford police released this photo of the marijuana plants seized from a local home.

GILFORD – Officers discovered a marijuana growing operation inside a Chestnut Drive home while serving paperwork in a domestic violence case, according to police.

About 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, police went to serve court papers on David Brown, 54, of 81 Chestnut Drive, as well as of 36 Paradise Road, North Woodstock. The documents related to a domestic violence case out of North Woodstock.

While at the Gilford home, officers observed a marijuana growing operation inside the residence and arrested Brown on a felony charge of manufacturing controlled drugs.

After obtaining a search warrant, police said they removed 21 large marijuana plants and 53 small seedlings as well as soil, fertilizer, five large grow lights, other lighting equipment, fans and ducting.

Police said the plants were not mature but, if allowed to grow to harvest, would have yielded about four to five pounds of marijuana, equal to $12,000 to $16,000 if sold in bulk.

Brown is free on $25,000 personal recognizance bail pending arraignment July 18 in 4th Circuit Court, Laconia District Division.
