Burglar distrupts elderly Red Sox fan’s TV time in Manchester

June 11. 2013 8:10PM

MANCHESTER — An 89-year-old's enjoyment of a televised Red Sox game was interrupted Monday night by a burglar who waltzed into her bedroom and took a wooden jewelry box from her dresser.

Police said the incident happened just before 9 p.m. at an Island Pond Road residence. The woman was in bed watching the Red Sox game when a thin man, about 5-foot-10 and wearing dark-colored clothing, entered her bedroom.

The woman told police the man tried to hide his face by pulling his sweatshirt or jacket over it as he took the jewelry box. He never said a word to the woman, but she told police he appeared to be talking to a second person who was just outside the bedroom door.

The burglar fled with the box, which contained costume jewelry.

Police said it appears the intruder entered the home by pushing in an air conditioner in a front window.

A police dog was unable to track him down.
