Campbell rallies to win Div. III softball crown

PLYMOUTH — The Campbell High Cougars came back after falling two runs behind to the Spartans of White Mountains Regional to win the Division III girls' softball title, 7-5, Sunday at Plymouth State University.

Campbell starter Olivia Martinage, who was 9-1 going into the game, was lifted by coach Joe Raycraft in the fourth inning when the Spartans went up by a score of 4-2. Raycraft inserted Emily Paquin on the mound, who had been 9-0 this season.

After that, the Cougars responded, led by the Brittany McNulla, who had three hits, and Lauren King, who had two hits. Campbell's Chelsea Caynon had two hits, including a home run.

Erica Miller took the loss for coach Forrest Hicks.

"We hit the ball well," Hicks said. "We just gave them too many opportunities."

Raycraft was overjoyed.

"We came back!" he said. "We played some very good ball out there today."
