SALEM — A fatal accident early Monday night caused a major traffic disruption on Interstate 93 near the Massachusetts state line.

The crash, which happened just before 7:30 p.m., involved a pick-up truck that rolled over and came to rest against a guard rail.
Investigators determined, after speaking with witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene, that the crash happened as the driver of a white 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveled at a very high rate of speed and changed lanes while heading south on I-93.
The truck sideswiped a 2009 Infinity as it neared the Rockingham Park Boulevard exit, sending the pickup into the guardrail in the high speed median and rolling it several times, according to a news release issued by state police. The driver was ejected and died at the scene.
Authorities they will release the name of the driver once proper identification is complete and family is notified.
The driver and passenger in the Infinity were both uninjured, although the car had minor damage. Authorities did not release their names.
The area where the crash happened, about a quarter mile from the state line, has seen a number of lane and exit configurations in recent months as a result of construction related to the widening of I-93.
The accident shut two lanes of I-93 southbound for hours. At one point, all lanes were closed while state and Salem police investigated the accident.
