LeBlanc paces Conant win over Somersworth for Division III baseball title
MANCHESTER - Josh LeBlanc struck out eight and drove in three runs for No. 5 Conant in an 11-2 win over Somersworth in the Division III championship game Saturday.
The Orioles (16-4) put up five runs in both the third and fourth innings after falling behind 2-1 in the third and LeBlanc didn't allow a runner past first base over the final four innings.
LeBlanc struck out Chris April for the second out in the top of the seventh, then Ryan Cordeiro popped out to center to end the game and start the Orioles' celebration.
It was the third trip to the title game in four years for Somersworth (14-6) and the Hilltopers have gone home as runners-up each time. Somersworth lost to Campbell in the 2011 championship game and to Winnisquam in 2010.
Somersworth took a 2-1 lead in the third when Hunter Kretschmar scored on a wild pitch and Kurtis Michaud hit an RBI triple, but
Drew Colbert struggled with his control in the third and the Orioles capitalized.
Colbert walked four in the third and allowed doubles by LeBlanc, Ryan Carey, Johny Ciarcia. Colbert was pulled after walking Devin Springfield to lead off the fourth. Michael Paquette took over to and allowed a single by LeBlanc, then walked C.J. Bilodeau walked to load the bases with nobody out.
Kyle Carland and Devin Drovin hit RBI singles, then Ryan Carey drove in two more with a double. The Orioles added another run on a fielder's choice to take an 11-2 lead into the fifth.
