More than 10 players from New Hampshire or from Granite State college programs were selected during rounds 11 through 40 of the MLB draft Saturday.

Franklin Pierce University and Southern New Hampshire University were well-represented on day two. Four FPU players were selected and three were tabbed from SNHU.

New Hampshire natives drafted were Zach Mathieu of Derry (Pinkerton Academy, first baseman for FPU, 476th overall pick by the New York Mets), Kevin McGowan of Nashua (Nashua North, pitcher for FPU, 386th pick by the Mets), Carson Cross of Brentwood (Exeter High, pitcher at the University of Conn., 719th pick by Pittsburgh) and Michael Fransoso of Portsmouth (Portsmouth High, shortstop at the University of Maine, 809th pick by Pittsburgh).

Pitchers Trevor Graham (378th overall, Chicago Cubs), and Steve Hathaway (420, Arizona) joined Mathieu and McGowan as Ravens who were drafted.

For SNHU, pitchers Junior Mendez (491, Oakland), Alex Powers (753, Chicago White Sox) and John Massad (761, Oakland) were selected.

"I'm really excited. It's a great opportunity and they've worked hard so it's nice to see them get a chance. It shows the guys that their hard work they put in on a daily basis is worth their time," said SNHU head coach Scott Loiseau. "It shows the guys in the program that maybe they can get to that level. It makes it more real for them."

Dartmouth had two players taken as well: pitcher Michael Johnson (424th by the Los Angeles Dodgers) and pitcher Cole Sulser (741st by Cleveland).

Mathieu completed his junior year at Franklin Pierce with a batting average of .333 with 68 hits, 39 RBIs and six home runs. McGowan went 7-2 as a junior at FPU with an ERA of 3.20 with 60 strikeouts in 71.2 innings.

Carson went 9-4 with a 2.44 ERA as a UConn sophomore with 86 strikeouts in 110.2 innings. Fransoso hit .352 with 74 hits and 49 RBIs as a Maine senior.

Graham posted a 1.63 ERA through 110.1 innings as a junior at FPU with 123 strikeouts. Hathaway, a lefty sophomore, registered a 2.90 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 31 innings.

Mendez completed his junior year with a record of 9-3, a 1.67 ERA and 133 strikeouts in just 97 innings.

"He's been a three-year starter for me and he had an incredible season this last year," Loiseau said.

Another junior, Powers notched a 2.30 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 43 innings. Massad finished his career with a 1.46 ERA.

"Powers, he's been fantastic in the closer role for the past two years. He's got a power arm and he locates his heater," Loiseau said. "Massad, he's only been pitching for two years on an everyday basis. He's a strike-thrower so he should do well."

Johnson led Dartmouth in ERA with a 1.82 and was 7-0 as a senior. Another senior, Sulser went 5-3 with a 2.52 ERA, striking out 56 in 53.2 innings. They join Dartmouth pitcher Mitch Horacek, who was drafted 279th overall by Baltimore on Friday.
