Middleton man already in jail charged with stalking Thursday

DOVER - A Middleton man may have exacerbated his situation by sending his estranged girlfriend letters from jail.

Jeffrey Kinsley, 47, whose last known address was 4 Buttermilk Lane in Middleton, was charged with four counts of stalking while he was in Strafford County Jail. An active domestic violence order was in effect.

Police began investigating the matter Thursday after receiving a complaint from a Middleton resident around 5:23 p.m. Investigators determined Kinsley allegedly sent four letters while he was in jail even though he was prohibited from contacting the woman, according to police.

As a result, Kinsley was charged in jail, where he was being held for an unrelated felony charge of criminal threatening, at 9:05 p.m. Thursday.

Each count of stalking is a Class A Misdemeanor, which could result in up to a year in jail.

Kinsley is scheduled to be arraigned by video in the 7th Circuit Court in Rochester today at 11 a.m.

Police anticipate further charges will be filed as the investigation progresses.
