Goffstown’s Bourque heads UNH hockey recuiting list

Goffstown native Collin Bourque headlines the incoming recruiting class for the University of New Hampshire men’s ice hockey team. Bourque, a 5-foot-7, 155-pound forward, played for the New England Wolves of the America East Hockey League. He led his team in scoring with 36 goals and 78 assists for 114 points in 55 games last season.

Bourque helped the Wolves capture the AEHL Championship in its inaugural season. The coaches of the league named Bourque Player of the Year. He was also named to the league’s first team.

One of Bourque’s assistant coaches with the Wolves is Jon Fontas, captain of the 1978 University of New Hampshire men’s ice hockey team and a member of the UNH Hockey Hall of Fame. Bourque played four years with Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass.

UNH head coach Dick Umile announced the incoming recruiting class also includes defenseman Dylan Maller of Parkland, Fla., defenseman Matias Cleland of Longmont, Colo. and forward Tyler Kelleher of Longmeadow, Mass.

Maller played for the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League. He played for the DC Capitals U-18 team in the North American Prospects Hockey League. He’s eligible for the NHL Draft in June.

Cleland played for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL scoring nine goals and 28 assists in 60 games.

Kelleher comes to UNH after playing for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, scoring 23 points in 23 games.
