Fisher Cats win, set for homestand
The season's first heat wave is expected to arrive in New Hampshire and the Fisher Cats would like nothing better than to turn red-hot this weekend at the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Following a 7-2 win in Portland on Thursday, New Hampshire (27-28) has a chance to reach the .500 mark when they host the Binghamton Mets (30-23) in a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. Deck McGuire (2-5, 5.17 ERA) toes the mound against Logan Verrett (6-1, 3.07) tonight while in Saturday's 7:05 p.m. start, the Fisher Cats send Ryan Tepera (5-3, 4.20) to the hill against Rafael Montero (5-3, 3.08).
In the series finale on Sunday at 1:35 p.m., Sean Nolin of New Hampshire (2-0, 1.77) looks to stay unbeaten against Jacob deGrom (1-5, 5.29).
New Hamphire is 3-5 this season against the Mets, splitting a four-game series in Binghamton (April 11-14) before losing three of four to the Mets in Manchester a week later.
Against the Sea Dogs on Thursday, the Fisher Cats scored five runs in the second inning en route to the victory.
In the second Kevin Nolan reached on a throwng error by shortstop Xander Bogaerts and Sean Ochinko with a single. Kevin Ahrens followed with a single to score Nolan and Jack Murphy doubled home Ochinko with Ahrens moving to third.
Amadeo Zazueta grounded out, scoring Ahrens and Kevin Pillar doubled home Murphy. Pillar scored the final run of the inning on a double by Brian Van Kirk.
