Merrimack student’s death called suicide

MERRIMACK — The community is mourning the death of a local high school student.

Police say Arthur Dias, a student at Merrimack High School, died from an apparent suicide this past weekend.

Dias had been a wrestler and honor roll student at the high school. Principal Kenneth Johnson did not return a phone call or email seeking additional information.

Capt. Mike Dudash of the Merrimack Police Department said his department is not handling the suicide.

“It happened in Nashua, so we have no authority over the investigation at all,” said Dudash. “I believe he was a Nashua resident, but lived part-time in Merrimack so he attended Merrimack school.”

Merrimack police, however, are supporting the high school, its students and administration with the death, said Dudash.

“I am sure they set up something to help kids with the loss of Arthur,” said Dudash, adding the school resource officer was aware of the situation.

Lt. Michael Moushegian of the Nashua Police Department said Wednesday that his department handled the suicide of a teenage boy this past weekend, but would not confirm the boy’s name.
