MILFORD — On Thursday evening, chefs from around Milford will descend on the downtown area bearing special recipes for folks to sample during the fourth annual A Taste of Milford event.

Beginning at 6 p.m., A Taste of Milford will feature samples from more than 20 restaurants and local food producers from the Milford area. During the event, businesses in the Milford Oval will open their doors to chefs from local restaurants, who will set up shop in the storefronts offering their own unique flavors and specialties, said Tracy Hutchins, executive director of the Milford Improvement Team, which organizes the event each year.

From Mexican to Italian to American fare, the world will be served up on plates during the event. Desserts, including cake, cookies and ice cream, will satisfy the sweet tooth.

“No one leaves hungry,” said Hutchins.

New this year will be Russian specialties from Natasha Kelly, owner of My Sister’s Kitchen on Elm Street.

“Natasha is making borscht and stuffed cabbage leaves, real traditional Russian fare,” Hutchins said.

Phil’s Old Fashioned BBQ and Mi Jalisco will be joining the fun for the first time as well.

This year, A Taste of Milford is a week earlier than usual, Hutchins said, because of a conflict with another big local event, the annual Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce’s awards dinner on June 6.

But the change may mean folks who haven’t had a chance to participate in A Taste of Milford may get a seat at the table, because the event has sold out the last few years. There are still some tickets available, said Hutchins, which people can buy on the Oval Thursday night.

In addition to the food, live music will be performed by local musicians Doc Doherty, Marlena Phillips and local band Groov’n, and in between bites, folks can browse the boutiques and shops downtown.

Tickets are $25 per person purchased in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at www.milfordimprovementteam.org or by calling 249-0676.

All proceeds benefit the Milford Improvement Team and are reinvested back into the Milford community.
