State puts out call for foster parents

CONCORD - State officials are trying to recruit foster parents for the estimated 1,000 children who will need foster homes this year, according to Child and Family Services of New Hampshire and the state Division for Children, Youth and Families.

"While there are many families in our state providing foster and pre-adoptive care, there are not enough homes to accommodate all of the children in need," the agencies said in a joint release.

"The children who are in need of foster care have had difficult lives because of parental neglect, abandonment, exposure to drugs and alcohol, and physical, emotional or sexual abuse," the release said.

Foster parents do not need to be married, wealthy or own a home, it said.

More information on becoming a foster or adoptive parent is available at dhhs.nh.gov/dcyf/adoption/index.htm or by calling 271-4711.
