NHIAA Roundup: Bedford netmen earn spot in state final

The Bedford High School boys' tennis team won the only two doubles matches that were finished in its Division I semifinal matchup with Londonderry to secure a 5-3 win and wrap up a spot in the championship match on Tuesday.

The match was tied 3-3 after singles play and then the top-seeded Bulldogs (16-0) took over with wins at first and third doubles to down the No. 5 Lancers (12-4). McKinley Grimes and Dan Soucy teamed up for an 8-3 win at first doubles while Zach Anderson and Matt Weeks claimed an 8-1 win at third doubles. The match at second doubles was not completed.

Grimes also won his match at first singles 8-1 and Soucy prevailed 8-0 at third singles.

Londonderry got wins from Ryan Broderick at second singles (8-4), Matt McKinney at fourth singles (8-3) and Mike Paquette at fifth singles (8-3).

The Bulldogs will play the winner of the other semifinal between No. 2 Concord and No. 3 Exeter in the title game.

Girls' tennis

Bedford 5, Derryfield 4: In Bedford, after splitting singles play, the third-seeded Bulldogs (13-2) won two of the three doubles matches for a Division I quarterfinal win over the No. 6 Cougars (11-4) on Friday. Sadhana Tadepalli teamed up with Abby Ramsey for an 8-1 win at second doubles and the team of Payton Terzian and Anithan Machupali prevailed 8-6 at third doubles. Berklee and Colbi Vaillancourt each won their singles matches for Derryfield and teamed up for a win at first doubles.

The Bulldogs play at No. 2 Londonderry in the semifinals today.

Profile 6, Conant 0: Indoors in Lisbon, second-seeded Profile rolled into the Division III final for the second straight year and set up a rematch of last year's final. The defending champion Patriots will meet top seed Bow on Wednesday at Derryfield School in Manchester.

Bow 8, Gilford 1: At Bow, the top-seeded Falcons won all but one match en route to another appearance in the Division III state final.

Baseball

Salem 13, Nashua North 3 (5 inns.): In Nashua, the Blue Devils (7-13) exploded for 12 runs in the third inning en route to a big win over the Titans (13-7) on Friday.

Joe Lemenager and Dominic Gigante each homered for Salem and Matt Fortin had two long balls for North. Matt Survilas gave up just four hits over five innings of work to earn the win.

Pinkerton 13, South 2: The Astros (8-11) scored at least one run in each of the four innings they came to bat to end the regular season with a win over the Purple Panthers (6-11) on Friday. Pinkerton had 12 hits as a team. Nick Reed, Matt Byers and Alex Dunn all had one hit each for South.

Alvirne 12, Merrimack 2: In Hudson, the Broncos (11-7) pounded out 14 hits in a strong offensive performance as they downed the Tomahawks (11-7) on Friday.

Softball

Pinkerton 4, Nashua South 0: At Nashua, Natalie Fabrizio hurled a three-hit shutout as the Astros (9-9) downed the Purple Panthers (2-16) on Friday. Kelly Fitzsimmons had three of Pinkerton's five hits.

Timberlane 9, Bishop Guertin 3: Tori Dubois had a home run to pace the Owls to a win over the Cardinals on Friday.
