Two seriously injured in head-on crash in Bedford

BEDFORD — Two people were seriously injured Friday in a head-on crash at the intersection of Route 101 and Wallace Road, police said.

Lt. Scott Plumer said police do not know how the crash happened.

“We’re hoping that witnesses will call us,” he said. “It happened at a busy time of day where there was a lot of traffic.”

The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. Friday when cars driven by Judith Jolton, 69, of Manchester, and Wayne Hoffman, 48, of Greenfield, collided head on. Both motorists were trapped in their cars and had to be rescued using hydraulic cutting tools, Plumer said.

Neither car had passengers, he said. Plumer said police have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 472-5113.

“Specifically, the Bedford Police Department is seeking information from the driver of a tan Toyota Camry who was not involved in the accident but may have witnessed the collision,” police said in a release.

Route 101 between Wallace and Jenkins Road was closed until about 7 p.m. Friday while a police accident reconstruction team conducted an initial investigation.

Earlier Friday, state police investigated a single-car accident that happened on Interstate 89 near Exit 5 in Hopkinton. However, state police provided no information about the crash and did not return a telephone message seeking information.
