Getting revved up over student car raffle

MANCHESTER — One of 12 hard-working city high school students will drive away next week with a brand new Honda Civic as a part of a joint private-public venture to promote educational excellence.

The names of four honor roll students from Manchester High School Central, Manchester Memorial High School and Manchester High School West were drawn Thursday by Mayor Ted Gatsas and AutoFair president Andy Crews as part of the ‘Make The Grade’ program.

The finalists are:

Central High School: Jesse Roberts. Shanice Drysdale, Kaitlyn Landry and Emily Duchesne.

Memorial High School: Malibu Sprague, Kerri Cobb, Arianna Nadeau and Jessica Nadeau.

West High School: Debora Almeida, Corey Kosowicz, Abbey Calzini and Qi Qi Chen.

Their names will be entered in a grand drawing to be held May 31 before the New Hampshire Fisher Cats game.

Each finalist will draw a key at random. Only one key will start the new, silver-grey Honda Civic valued at about $15,000.

“They are our future. We like to encourage kids to be better in school and to work harder and to really do the best they can. This is a way to motivate them,” said Sarah Cadden, coordinator of the Make The Grade program and an AutoFair employee.

A total 476 entry forms were filled out by an estimated 250 juniors and seniors who made the Honor Roll, High Honors and Principals List for the first, second and third quarter of the current school year.

This is the third year the city of Manchester, AutoFair and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats teamed up in this program to promote academic excellence.
