Strawbery Banke Museum pays tribute to military past and present

As the Granite State commemorates those who died in service to the country, Strawbery Banke Museum, a 10-acre campus representing several hundred years of history in Portsmouth, pays tribute to members of the military and their families and veterans with free admission through Oct. 31, including Memorial Day on Monday, May 27.The museum is part of Blue Star Museum, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and more than 1,800 museums across America, including more than two dozen in New Hampshire.Strawbery Banke, which features 16 buildings and gardens and features role-players and working craftspeople, chronicles the evolution of Portsmouth from the early Colonial period of maritime trade through its 1950s neighborhood of Puddle Dock.&#';(We share) the stories of Ichabod Goodwin, Governor of New Hampshire at the start of the American Civil War, of life on the homefront through the Abbott Store and the Victory Garden and of both patriots and Loyalists during the American Revolution,&#'; said Lawrence J. Yerdon, president and chief executive officer of Strawbery Banke.&#';We say, 'Thank you,&#'; and honor those who are part of that history,&#'; Yerdon said.

Hours at Strawbery Banke are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, including Monday, Memorial Day.
