Police seek man they say passed counterfeit bill at Manchester mall

MANCHESTER – Police are looking for a man pushing a small child in a stroller who they say passed a $100 counterfeit bill and may have passed others at stores at the Mall of New Hampshire over the weekend.

About 3:40 p.m. Sunday, a man bought a $30 gift card at Olympia Sports and paid for it with a $100 counterfeit bill. He received $70 in change.

Police said the store did not know the bill was a counterfeit until their bank notified them Monday after discovering the fake bill in the store's deposit.

The man who passed the counterfeit bill is described as Hispanic, in his 20s with a shaved head and pushing a small child in a stroller. He was about 5-foot-11, weighing between 240 and 260 pounds. He had a piercing over his eye.

Police believe the man may have passed counterfeit bills at other stores in the mall that same day, although they say those incidents have yet to be confirmed.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 668-8711. Anonymous tips for cash rewards may be made through Manchester Crimeline at 624-4040 or online at
