Berlin man dies while kayaking

DUMMER - A Berlin man apparently suffered a medical emergency and died Saturday while kayaking with his wife on the Upper Ammonoosuc River.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department identified the victim as Keith E. Whitten, 58.
Authorities said Whitten was kayaking with his wife, Sharon, around 2 p.m. when his kayak rolled over. When his wife realized Whitten was not moving, she got him to shore, called 911 and started CPR, according to a news release.
Emergency responders tried to resuscitate Whitten with a defibrillator, but were unable to do so.
Personnel from Fish and Game, Milan/Dummer Ambulance, Milan Fire and Rescue and state police responded to the scene.
