Outstanding NH employers recognized by Department of Defense

GOFFSTOWN — The New Hampshire committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve recognized the outstanding support of employers from across the state Saturday, May 11, at the 2013 Annual Planning and Awards Conference at St. Anselm College.

Each year New Hampshire National Guardsmen and Reservists or their family members nominate supportive employers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in standing behind our citizen soldiers while they are deployed on foreign soil or away for military service domestically.

“Every year, these nominations demonstrate the strength of our employers’ commitment to supporting our Guardsmen and Reservists,” said ESGR National Chair James G. Rebholz.

This year’s award recipients of the Patriot Award included Westbridge Community Services, Inc. of Manchester; the Hillsboro-Deering School District; and Measured Progress of Dover.

The second highest level of recognition is the Above and Beyond Award; which was once again given to Measured Progress.

The Seven Seals Award is the third highest award presented by ESGR and this year’s recipient was Rock Creek Ministries of Amesbury, Mass., which has churches in Plaistow and Sandown.

The Seven Seals Award was also given to David W. Houle of the U.S. Department of Labor VETS—Veterans Employment and Training Service for his many years of service to veterans throughout New Hampshire and the greater Boston region.

The final and highest state level award is the Pro-Patria Award, meaning “for the nation.”

This award is given annually by each of the 54 states and territories by the state ESGR chairman and is presented to those employers who demonstrate exceptional support for the national defense by adopting policies that make it easier for employees to serve in the National Guard and Reserves.

This year’s award recipient is Con-way Freight of Manchester. Con-way Freight was nominated by SGT John Petrillo, a member of Alpha Company, 3643rd Brigade Support Battalion, New Hampshire Army National Guard.

ESGR’s Extraordinary Employer Support Award was created to recognize sustained employer support of the National Guard and Reserve Service. Only prior recipients of the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award or the Pro-Patria Award are eligible for consideration at the committee level. This years award was presented to the New Hampshire State Police for their continued support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserves.

Accepting the award on behalf of the State Police was their director, Col. Robert Quinn.

The last award of the day was given the family of Command Chief Master Sergeant David L. Eaton of Hopkinton.

Command CMsgt Eaton died Oct. 5, 2012, after more than 40 years of dedicated military service to his state and nation.

The “Twice the Citizen” Award is given to family of select ESGR Committee members posthumously in recognition of their dedication to our citizen soldiers and the ESGR mission. Accepting the award on behalf of her husband and their father was Mrs. Nancy Eaton and her children Brittany and Nathanial.
