Hampstead Congregational Church hosts Hunger Action on May 19

HAMPSTEAD — On Sunday, May 19, the public is invited to join members of Hampstead Congregational Church and seven area congregations in an outreach of hands and feet to address hunger in New Hampshire and around the world.

On this Hunger Action Sunday, some will walk 10K with their feet, some will walk a mile with their feet, and some will package food with their hands. But all will be offering their hearts in time and energy to raise and provide food for persons who are hungry.

“Hunger Action,” says Marion Lake, the event chair and Hampstead Congregational Church member, “is just that, come use your heart, hands and feet.”

The day begins with a special interfaith intergenerational worship service at 11 a.m. Rev. Matthew Martin, Northeast Region coordinator for Outreach Kids, will speak, and children of Hampstead Congregational Church’s Sunday School will present a parable told by Jesus.

Outreach food production will then start with two production lines of 10 to 12 people each. CROP walk registration begins at 12:30 p.m.

At 1 p.m. a CROP Walk Send Off Ceremony will be held in the Church sanctuary with the Rev. Bert Marshall, New England regional director of Church World Services, presenting.

As walkers return to the church with tired feet, and as food packers come off the production line with tired hands, they will find respite in festive food and music offered in the church’s fellowship hall throughout the afternoon.

The CROP walk goal is $21,000; the food production goal is preparation of 10,000 meals.

If you’d like to outreach with your hands or feet, call Lake at 244-3090 to sign up.

If you are unable to offer your hands or feet, but would like to share your heart, you may contribute to the CROP walk by visiting www.hampsteaducc.org and/or you may help purchase food to be packed by sending check made out to Hampstead Congregational Church and marked, “Outreach Kids Food”.

Bring it by on May 19.
