Several sites in Windham are awaiting ‘adoption’ for spruce-up

WINDHAM — Community development officials are hoping next month’s launch of the new Adopt-A-Spot program will help make their town a prettier place.

Event organizer Lisa Ferrisi, who serves on the town’s Conservation Commission, said the main goal is to reach out to area businesses, volunteer groups, not-for-profit organizations and local residents, and ask them to help improve designated areas of town.

“We have some areas in town that could really benefit from some love and attention,” Ferrisi said on Wednesday.

That “love and attention” will include removing litter, weeding, and adding colorful plants and flowers.

Participants will be responsible for maintaining their spots throughout the summer into early fall.

With materials for the planting and landscaping projects already donated by several area businesses, volunteers can participate in the program free of charge.

PSNH, Delahunty’s Nursery, Cyr Lumber, George R. Cairns & Sons, Dirt Doctors and B & C Landscaping have all sponsored the program launch.

Ferrisi said the town has identified 35 potential sites, all of which are awaiting “adoption.”

A kickoff event on Saturday, June 8, will rally program participants and give them an overview of their responsibilities and materials to help them get started.

The kickoff is at 9 a.m. in the Community Development Room at the Windham town complex.

“This is a great way to become involved in the community and help improve the physical appearance of the town,” Ferrisi said. “Hopefully we’ll end up with something we can all take pride in.”

Those who wish to adopt a “spot” are asked to sign up for the program before June 1. For more information or to register, visit or contact Ferrisi at
