Gov. Hassan to nominate three to head state agencies
Hassan will nominate former Gov. John Lynch’s budget director, John Beardmore, to become the new Department of Revenue Administration commissioner, along with long-time state Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny to that post and Acting Department of Information Technology Commissioner Peter Hastings to a full term.
“The work done by the Department of Revenue Administration is critical for our efforts to maintain a fiscally responsible state budget, and we must ensure that their work is performed as transparently and fairly as possible,” Hassan said in a statement. “Cuts to DRA positions in recent years have put a significant strain on the department that they have for the most part handled admirably, but it is clear that the agency needs revitalized leadership to improve their effectiveness and communication with taxpayers and with the legislature.
Sevigny was originally appointed to his post by former Gov. Craig Benson in 2003 and was reappointed by former Gov. John Lynch in 2008.
Hastings, of Derry, was named Department of Information Technology Acting Commissioner in October 2012 having served in the agency since 2007. He has more than 22 years of experience in the information technology field.
The Executive Council will hold public hearings on both nominees before deciding whether to confirm the two men to their posts.
