PORTSMOUTH - Two construction workers were injured at the Portsmouth Middle School building site Tuesday morning.
Portsmouth Fire Capt. Richard Murphy said the two workers were using a scissor-type hydraulic lift to bring drywall to the third floor of the building when the jack failed around 11:15 a.m.
The drywall load shifted as a result, landing on the workers and causing lower extremity injuries to both men.
Both were conscious and alert when transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, and Murphy said the injuries are non-life threatening.
Workers are currently rehabilitating the original middle school building while students are in classes in the adjacent new addition.
Portsmouth fire crews and the city's building inspector were on scene investigating Tuesday morning, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of the accident.
Murphy said construction was continuing Tuesday, but the hydraulic lift is out of service.
