Golick's to bring its 90 ice cream flavors to Rochester
The newest Golick's Dairy Bar should open next to Care Pharmacy along South Main Street (Route 108) Wednesday, according to Alan Golick and his wife, Lisa Thompson."We've been wanting to be in Rochester for 10 years," Golick said, adding they first spotted the new location seven years ago but weren't able to acquire it until now.
"We're real close now," Golick said, adding he hoped to open the store earlier this spring, but construction took longer than expected. The property, which is accessible via Sawyer Avenue, is owned by Care Pharmacy, which welcomes its new neighbor, according to Sandy Hitchings, co-manager at Care Pharmacy in Rochester.
"I hope it does well," Hitchings said, adding there aren't many drive-up ice cream stores in southern Rochester.Hitchings said she did not know whether similar circumstances have occurred at other Care Pharmacy locations, including Dover, Epsom and Somersworth.
Golick said the flagship store on Dover Point Road in Dover, which opened in 1984, and their second location along Route 125 in Barrington, which opened seven years ago, have both begun to serve customers for the season."It's a family business," Golick said, adding the new store will sell the same 90 flavors including coffee Oreo and chocolate-salted caramel.
Golick said offerings include the "Princess Twist" - a soft-serve chocolate and vanilla - in honor of the former Princess Dairy Bar in Dover.Additionally, Golick said 16 employees have been hired to scoop ice cream at the new store, which will have a mix of new and experienced workers. He said some of the staff from Barrington will help supervise the new store.Golick said the Rochester store is open from April to October, but hours can start earlier or continue later depending on the weather. He said last year, the stores opened in March because the temperatures were so warm.Visit golicksdairybar.com.
