Fisher Cats lose again, despite Nolan's offense

Three Trenton Thunder pitchers combined on a five-hittter to lift their team to a 6-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday night at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, N.J.

Trenton followed up on Friday night's 3-2 victory and has won two of the three games in the series. The Thunder improved to 20-16 and the Fisher Cats fell to 16-21.

The teams wrap up the four-game set this afternoon.

Shortstop Kevin Nolan of Nashua provided most of the Fisher Cat offense. He led off the eighth with a solo homer to left field and then delivered a run-scoring single in the ninth.

Trenton's Jeremy Bleich and Matt Tracy, a couple of lefthanders, got the Thunder into the ninth inning and righty Matt Daley closed it out.

Bleich started and allowed two hits in his three innings. Tracy went five and two-third innings for the win. He gave up two hits and two runs.

After getting two outs in the top of the ninth, Tracy walked Brad Glenn and Ryan Schimpf. Daley came on in relief and Nolan met him with a single to right, scoring Glenn.

Daley struck out Adam Loewen, pinch-hitting for Kevin Ahrens, to end the game.

The Thunder got a pair of runs off Fisher Cat starter Tyson Brummett in the bottom of the second. Kyle Roller singled and Slade Heathcott doubled to start things off. Reegie Corona scored Roller with a sacrifice fly to center field and Kevin Mahoney knocked in Heathcott with a sacrifice to left.

Trenton stretched the lead to 3-0 in the fifth.

That was it for Brummett, who allowed six hits and the three runs in his five innings, while striking out four and walking one.

Brummett took the mound on Saturday night after the Blue Jays called Chad Jenkins up to Boston where they are playing the Red Sox.

The Thunder added two runs off reliever Matt Wright in the sixth without getting a hit.

With one out Wright hit Mahoney and Ali Castillo with pitches. Both stole bases to move up and then scored on a grounder to short by Ramon Flores. Mahoney scored on the fielder's choice and Castillo on a throwing error by Nolan.
