Woman arrested after police say she fired gun into ceiling, held them at bay

CONCORD - A Concord woman was arrested Wednesday for reckless conduct after police say they responded to her home on Pembroke Road for a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and soon found themselves facing Renita Meisenburg, who was holding a handgun under her chin.

Meisenburg was subdued with a Taser stun device by police after they tried to get her to drop the weapon, police said.

The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. in the home on Pembroke Road near the intersection with Canterbury Road. When police showed up, they smelled the odor of gunpowder inside the home and were told by Meisenburg that she fired a shot into the ceiling.

While police were talking with her, they said Meisenburg took the weapon and pointed it at her own chin. Police tried to get her to drop the weapon, but she refused.

Police in their report said Meisenburg held the barrel of the handgun with her left hand, and while she moved her right hand off the grip to wipe her nose, an officer used the Taser. Other officers rushed into the room to restrain her, and after a brief struggle, Meisenburg was able to get her right hand back onto the handgun's grip, according to officers. One of the officers was able to wrest the handgun from Meisenburg's grip and she was then arrested.

She was taken to Concord Hospital for evaluation.

Police said they checked the trajectory of the bullet fired into the ceiling and said it was toward a residential area of Concord Heights, across Canterbury Road toward Loudon Road. Meisenburg was charged with one count of reckless conduct, placing another in danger, a class B felony.

She was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning at Concord Hospital through the 6th Circuit Court, Concord District Division.
