Hampton resident named president of Provident Bank

AMESBURY, Mass. - The Provident Bank has announced a executive leadership transition it says ensures the bank's continued growth throughout the Seacoast region.

Charles R. Cullen, formerly president and CEO, becomes executive chairman; David P. Mansfield, who had been executive vice president and chief financial officer, becomes chief executive officer; and Charles F. Withee of Hampton, former executive vice president and senior loan officer, becomes president.

Bob Becker, chairman of the board since 2004, will remain on the board.

The Provident Bank is a mutually-owned, independent community bank founded in 1828.

"Despite what may be perceived as a soft economy, we closed 60 percent more loans in the first quarter of 2013; a large increase over what we considered a great first quarter last year," said Withee, who began his banking career at The Indian Head Bank in New Hampshire in 1985.
