Bentley 3, Southern New Hampshire 2: At Waltham, Mass., the hosts plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull out a victory in the first round of the Northeast-10 tournament.

SNHU starter Junior Mendez (8-3) took a 2-1 lead into the ninth and retired the first batter before a walk, an error and Will Brennan's single tied the game. Closer Alex Powers then gave up a single to Nate Witkowski, sending home the winning run.

Bentley, seeded second, advanced to Thursday's double-elimination portion of the tourney against either Franklin Pierce or Merrimack, who played their first-round game on Tuesday night.

The Penmen (33-17), seeded third, are strong candidates to earn an at-large bid to the NCAAs.

The selection show is Sunday night.

On Tuesday, SNHU scored both of its runs in the eighth. Andy Lalli singled and advanced to third on Jon Minucci's double. Jamie Wollerman then delivered a single, scoring two runs.
