Man's offer of pizza and cash after crashing party earns him arrest, police say

May 06. 2013 4:44PM

MANCHESTER - A Bedford man was arrested Sunday after parents hosting a child's birthday party on Cedar Street said the man hopped a fence in the back yard and approached the children on the deck, saying he had just won the lottery and wanted to take them all to Chuck E. Cheese and give them $500.

The incident happened about 6:10 p.m., and police said a mother chased the man through several yards before losing him near Beech and Central streets.

Police say the man is also suspected of suspicious behavior earlier in the day around 4 p.m. at the Dunkin Donuts, 1037 Hanover St. A man who matched the man's description had been harrassing the clerk, who told police the same man had been in the store acting unusual the day before.

Another report was received from a Michigan Avenue resident, who said a suspicious man came to the door.

Around 7:40 p.m., Manchester Police Sgt. Steve Reardon spotted a man matching the description from all three incidents in the area of Highland Avenue and Hanover Street. After a brief foot pursuit, Christos Kassaras, 50, of Bedford, was detained by police in the area of 550 Lake Ave.

Police said Kassaras was acting disorderly, shouting obscenities and disturbing area residents. He was subsequently arrested and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. He was also held on violation of bail conditions for a previous assault charge.
