Conn. Hiker rescued after injury

NEW HAMPTON — A Connecticut hiker had to be rescued Friday after she slipped on wet rocks and injured her leg, authorities said.
Yingnan Zhao of Hartford was hiking on the Falling Waters Trail with a companion when she slipped on wet rocks in the area of Cloudland Falls around 4:45 p.m. The couple asked a group of passing hikers to call for assistance when they reached the trailhead.
Eight volunteers from Pemi Valley Search and Rescue Team and seven Fish and Game conservation officers responded up the trail with a litter. Zhao had slowly been working her way down the trail and rescuers reached her at 7:15 p.m., about one mile up the trail. Rescuers stabilized Zhao's injury and packaged her in the litter for the one-mile carryout to the trailhead, where they reached an awaiting LinWood ambulance at 8:10 p.m.
Zhao and her companion "were adequately prepared for a short day hike, and had turned around when they came upon snow and ice on the trail at higher elevations," according to a statement from Fish and Game.
Fish and Game reminded hikers to carry appropriate gear. Please visit www.hikesafe.com for a list of recommended equipment.
