Bridge inspectors in Hudson discover car in river
HUDSON - A bridge inspection crew performing their work on the Sagamore Bridge over the Merrimack River this morning saw something out of the ordinary: a car upside-down, located below them.
The Nashua Fire Department's dive team went down to inspect the Dodge Magnum, which appears to have been in the river for several months, according to police, and determined no one was inside.
The car was resting on its roof and sitting in about 10 feet of water under the bridge with gravel pushed against it from the river current, according to a press release from Hudson Police.
No registration plates were seen by the divers, and authorities expect to identify the owner after the car is pulled from the river.
The state Department of Environmental Services has been called to handle the removal, which police say will happen later. They did not give a removal date and time.
