Four on Hampton jetty knocked into ocean by wave

HAMPTON - Four people walking on the jetty at the Hampton State Park were knocked into the ocean by a large wave, with one person rescued by a passing boater and another carried back to land by rescue crews.

Hampton Police said the incident happened Wednesday about 5:20 p.m., when police got a call for a report of a person in the water.

When they arrived at the park, police found a person on the beach near the jetty and another two people who were near the end of the jetty in the water between rocks at a breach in the jetty.

Rescue crews helped the two back up the rocks onto the top of the jetty, with one person having to be carried the length of the jetty due to hypothermia.

That person was taken to Exeter Hospital, according to a release from Hampton Police.

After police dealt with those three, they learned that a fourth person was recovered from the water by a boater and brought to the state pier for evaluation by Hampton firefighters.

Police did not identify the four in the press release issued about the incident.
