Man charged with drunk driving after Rochester crash

ROCHESTER - Firefighters rescued a Lafayette Street man after he became trapped in his vehicle which rolled over along Route 108 Monday.

Police, firefighters and emergency personnel responded to free the driver around 2:10 a.m. after Dover ambulance crews spotted a 2005 Hyundai Accent after it struck a utility pole before rolling onto its roof near Profile Apartments along Rochester Hill Road - Route 108.

The Hyundai sustained extensive damage during the accident and was towed from the scene.

Joseph Mercer, 26, of Lafayette Street, was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and charged with driving under the influence. He was released on $1,500 personal recognizance and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning.
