Nashua's Nolan leads NH

Nashua's Kevin Nolan drove in two runs with a single in the top of the eighth inning to give the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a lead they would not relinquish en route to a 7-3 victory over Reading on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Ryan Schimpf led off the eighth with a walk. After Clint Robinson was hit by a pitch, Brad Glenn's sacrifice fly moved the runners to second and third before Nolan singled up the middle to give the Fisher Cats a 4-3 lead. Nolan later scored on a wild pitch.

Nolan, a shortstop, had two hits in the game and is batting .271.

Glenn added a two-run double in the ninth inning that scored Ricardo Nanita and Schimpf to cap the scoring.

New Hampshire (11-12) scored twice in the top of the first. Nanita singled and scored on a triple by Schimpf to make it 1-0. Robinson followed with a single that scored Schimpf.

Reading tied the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the second. Cameron Rupp beat out an infield single and then Troy Hanzawa hit his first home run of the season.

Deck McGuire started on the mound for New Hampshire and allowed three runs in four innings. He struck out six. Matt Wright, Chad Beck and Evan Crawford combined to pitch five scoreless innings of relief. Beck (1-0) was credited with the win.

Reading received a solid start from David Buchanan, who left with two outs in the sixth. Jay Johnson (0-1) took the loss.

The series will conclude today (1:35 p.m.) in Reading. Right-hander Tyson Brummett (0-1, 6.75) is scheduled to start for New Hampshire. He'll be opposed by Reading's Jesse Biddle (2-1, 2.16).
