MOUNT WASHINGTON - Sunny skies and relatively warm temperatures on Saturday greeted the first passengers of the Mount Washington Cog Railway's season, according to the historic railway.

The Cog ran two trips to the mountain's summit, where it was 55 degrees with a breeze of about 8 miles an hour, said the Cog's Becky Metcalf.

She said passengers were from as far away as Russia.

"Old Peppersass," the first cog-driven train to ascend the mountain, made its climb July 3, 1869, according to the Cog Railway's website.
