MANCHESTER - The Timberlane of Plaistow softball team defeated Manchester Central 2-0 Friday, but the bad news for Central didn't end there.

Little Green senior catcher Alexis Lievens suffered what could be a serious knee injury after hitting a double in the fourth inning. Lievens rounded second, but then fell to the ground while attempting to get back to the base.

"Rounded the bag, went to stop and I think that's when the knee gave out on her," Central coach Josh Borge said. "Her parents took her down to urgent care, and we'll just have to await word. She's a tough kid."

Timberlane pitcher Kate Hoadley provided the other major storyline Friday. Hoadley, a freshman, held Central to two hits and struck out a 12. Timberlane is 8-0 and Hoadley has six of the eight victories.

"She hits spots - that's her main thing," Timberlane coach Jim Clavette said. "She also has pretty good velocity. She's what I call sneaky quick.

"I expected to be good, but not as good as we're doing right now. Defensively we're much better than we've been, and we're playing as a team."

Central pitcher Sarah Lavallee limited Timberlane to four hits and didn't walk a batter, but the Owls came up with two unearned runs in the third. Jennifer Trodella reached on an error, took second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Masha Lange's single. Lange later scored on Caroline Salvaneschi's infield groundout.

Hoadley struck out five of the last eight batters she faced, and didn't allow a baserunner after Lievens doubled. Kindred St. Germain collected Central's other hit, a single in the third.

"(Hoadley) had nice movement on her pitches, too," Borge said. "She did a brilliant job out there, she really did."

Timberlane will face Dover at home in a battle of unbeatens on Monday. Dover raised its Division I record to 7-0 by beating Londonderry 9-6 on Friday. Central is now 4-3.

Lievens, who was also the team's starting catcher as a junior, became the second Central player to go down with a knee injury this season. One day after Central opened its season with an 11-0 victory over Alvirne, starting shortstop Kim Leiter suffered a knee injury in practice. Although she hasn't been ruled out for the year, Leiter hasn't played in a game since the injury.

"(Lievens) plays through every injury, so she was definitely in pain out there," Borge said. "She's been doing a great job at catcher and she's been hitting the ball around, too. She's a huge part of this team."
