College Sports Roundup: SNHU nine rallies to top Franklin Pierce

Southern New Hampshire University rallied for single runs in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings to catch Franklin Pierce and scratched out another run in the 10th to knock off Franklin Pierce, 4-3, on Wednesday night.

Zach Goldstein was hit by a Brendan O'Rourke pitch to open the 10th and eventually scored on an error to end the game. The Penmen did not have a hit in the inning.

SNHU and Franklin Pierce have matching overall records of 27-13. The Penmen are 13-10 in the Northeast-10 and the Ravens are 17-4.

Alex Powers got the win with an inning and two-thirds of hitless relief.



Dartmouth 12, Quinnipiac 0: At Hanover, junior Jeff Keller and freshman Joe Purritano both went 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs while five pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout to lead Dartmouth. The win pushed Dartmouth to a season-high 20 games over .500 at 27-7. The Big Green have won 10 of their last 11 games.

Plymouth State 12, Castleton 11: At Plymouth, sophomore Brian Thompson lined a two-run double down the left field line to cap a two-out, four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Panthers.

New England College 3/8, Lyndon State 9/5: At Lyndon Center, Vt., the Pilgrims rallied from three runs down in their final at bat to earn a split of the doubleheader. RBI singles by Scott Fortune and Conor Crouse, as well as a two-run Brandon Adorno double powered the NEC rally. NEC is now 5-20 overall.

St. Michael's 13, St. Anselm 1: At Goffstown, junior Dan Lagasse (Londonderry) provided a rare bright spot for the Hawks with his second home run of the season. The Hawks dropped to 16-24-1 overall and 11-13 in the Northeast-10.

The Purple Knights got trolling early with a three-run homer by Jacob Begnoche in the top of the first, added a couple of runs in the fifth and broke it open with five in the seventh.

Daniel Webster 5, Fitchburg State 3: At Nashua, Kyle Brigham (Hudson) went three for four with a pair of doubles and knocked in two runs while Erick Bourdeau (Alton) added two hits and knocked in the game-winning run.



Women's lacrosse



Husson 12, Colby-Sawyer 11: At New London, freshman Alissa Fallon scored with 29 seconds left to lift No. 6 seed Husson to an upset over No. 3 Colby-Sawyer in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) first round. Colby-Sawyer ends the season with a 7-9 record.

Keene State 13, Roger Williams 7: At Bristol, R.I., Senior Lauren Brown (Agawam, Mass.) scored five goals and freshman Kaitlin Nolan three to lead the Owls.



Softball



Franklin Pierce 5/2, St. Michael's 1/1: At Colchester, Vt., The Ravens swept St. Michael's for the second time this season and improved to 8-26 overall and 5-19 in the Northeast-10. Senior Rachel Allen and freshman Mandi Adee each allowed four hits for a complete game victory. Allen improved to 5-9 on the year and Adee to 3-5.

SNHU 4/3, St. Anselm 3/5: At Goffstown, the Penmen moved to 27-13 with a split and the Hawks are 18-19. The first game was scoreless through nine innings, the teams each scored two runs in the tenth and SNHU got a couple in the top of the 11th and held on.

Ali Maloof pitched 11 innings for the win, allowing six hits and striking out 13.

Saint Anselm scored four runs in the sixth inning on the way to its win. Sophomore Paige Cormier (Rochester) allowed six hits and earned the win.

Keene State 1/1, Plymouth State 0/9: At Keene, sophomore Samantha Nitso (Londonderry) knocked in the only run of the game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning and freshman pitcher Mariah Crisp (Greenland) tossed a complete game three-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in an opening game win for the Owls.
