BOSTON - Following a quick closed-door meeting in manager John Farrell's office after Wednesday's 6-5 victory over Oakland, the Red Sox optioned right hander Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket, according to a report on csnne.com.

The team said the move was based on Aceves' performance this year, and not his erratic behavior during and after Tuesday's 13-0 loss to the A's. No corresponding roster move was made immediately, but a source indicated that the team may recall a position player to hold the roster spot until the expected activation of John Lackey this weekend, CSNNE.com added.
