Struggling Fisher Cats welcome New Britain

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats continue their seven-game homestand today with a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats at the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

New Hampshire (8-10), in last place in the Eastern Division, enters the 6:35 p.m. game with a two-game losing streak, as the Fisher Cats lost three of four games to the Binghamton Mets over the weekend.

In hopes of avoiding their second three-game losing streak of the young season, the Fisher Cats will look to righthanded starter Tyson Brummett to right the ship. Brummett (0-1, 6.75) made his second start of the season last Wednesday on the road against the Rock Cats and pitched well.

The UCLA product didn't get the decision in the team's 3-2 11-inning victory, but Brummett allowed no runs, one walk and fanned three during his five-inning outing. He threw 69 pitches, 46 for strikes.

His outing was far better than his season debut on April 12 against Binghamton, when Brummett allowed five hits and six runs in three innings.

New Hampshire's pitching staff ranks fifth in the 12-team circuit with a 4.43 ERA. Offensively, the Fisher Cats are fourth in team batting (.274), second in homers (14) and third in hits with 181.

New Hampshire is 5-6 at home and hasn't had a longer winning streak than two games in the early going. The team has won just three times in its last 10 games after a 5-3 start.

Clint Robinson leads the team with a .339 batting average. He has 10 RBIs and one homer. Ryan Schimpf, who leads the club with four homers, shares the team-high of 12 RBIs with Sean Ochinko.

The three-game series will continue Wednesday as righthander Ryan Tepera (2-0, 3.31) will toe the mound in a 5:05 p.m. start. The series finale on Thursday will begin at 10:35 a.m. with righthander Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2-2, 3.28) getting the starting nod in that game for the Fisher Cats.
