Competition features Nashua-area chefs

Executive chefs from local nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals will compete against each other May 15 in the first Fire and Fusion competition. Funds raised will benefit over 3,000 seniors in the Nashua area.
'The Senior Center is buzzing with excitement about this event," said Jeanne Marcoux, executive director of the Nashua Senior Activity Center.
A group of representatives from the senior living industry organized the event, which will showcase some very talented chefs, Marcoux said.
Chefs from Ledgewood Bay, Courville at Nashua, Aynsley Place, Crestwood/the Elms, The Hunt, Fairview Nursing Home/Laurel Place, Nashua Crossings and St. Joseph Hospital have already thrown their hats into the ring.
The competition begins with each competing chef creating hors d'oeuvres for ticket holders, who will cast a vote for their favorite.
After the "popular vote" winner is announced, the action moves to the competition room where chefs are given 30 minutes to prepare a meal using four mystery ingredients revealed to the chefs shortly before the timer starts.
WZID-FM's Mike Morin is hosting the competition. State Sen. Peggy Gilmour, D-Hollis, Nashua mayor Donnalee Lozeau, Nashua Crowne Plaza general manager Tim Hogan, Nashua Area Chamber of Commerce president Chris Williams, and chef Nicole Barreira of T-Bones, Cactus Jacks and the Copper Door are judging.
Competition begins at 6 p.m. May 15 in the sampler room at the Nashua Senior Activity Center. Tickets are $25 per person and include entry to the sampler room, the competition room, and a complimentary glass of wine.
